Following their first major exhibition of photographs in Paris earlier this year, LA’s Gagosian Gallery presents an exhibition by pioneering Dutch digital duo Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.
Cited as among the first photographers to harness the full potential of digital manipulation, the exhibition sees the pair’s use of the tool to create often grotesquely beautiful portraits, here alongside almost Mapplethorpe/Araki-esque presentation of floral still life.
Embodying a dichotomy of sorts, the images appear to exist in a world other than our own, an almost anti-fantasy, often portraying exaggerated and imaginary beast-like characters, all the while harnessing the very real and delicate nature of the human condition.
The exhibition will run from today July 12th – August 23rd, 2013.
