Those who have seen Vice’s Tattoo Age on Thom Devita may recall a brief mention in Part 3 of Tony D’Annessa – an old time tattooer who started tattooing in New York during 1958. In an interview for Issue #7 of Tattoo Artist Magazine, Jason Sweet refers to D’Annessa as “The Forgotten Old Timer,” suggesting that D’Annessa’s role in the history of tattooing has not been fully acknowledged. D’annessa worked through New York’s tattoo ban that took effect in 1961 and continues to tattoo today at PSC Tattoo in the heart of Montreal’s Point-Saint-Charles neighborhood.
